Director: Daniel Sierra
Class, here is todays homework: full screen, headphones on (those bose noise cancelling ones minimum) and HD that shit. Don’t get it twisted, this is still a music video. This school project displays an array of talent on a par with, um, literally no-one. Daniel Sierra’s smokey crackles (at times reminiscent of pin to vinyl) are a masterstroke, binding together his musical production and animation. Could this be the dawning of the producer/animator era?
Animation alone the visuals are simply; spellbinding. Although superficially similar in style to Justin Timberlake’s LoveStoned, creatively they are worlds apart. Mr. Sierra’s interpretation of soundwaves is delicate and subtle, truly bringing to life the music.
Here’s what he had to say: “My goal with “Oscillate” was to visualize waveform patterns that evolve from the fundamental sine wave to more complex patterns, creating a mesmerizing audio-visual experience in which sight and sound work in unison to capture the viewer’s attention.”
